  The protestors stormed the Capitol building the same day when the US Congress was set to officially ratify President-elect Joe Biden's electoral victory.    The never-ending saga of US politics boiled up on January 6, 2021 with supporters of President Donald Trump storming into the building of the US Capitol, which houses both the US Senate and the House of Representatives, leading to the lockdown of the building. The protestors stormed the Capitol building the same day when the US Congress was set to officially ratify President-elect Joe Biden's electoral victory. The day also marked the day when the Democrats were set to take the senate after winning Georgia's US Senate election. Initially, the protestors had gathered at the National Mall to protest the November Election Results, as the Congress had begun counting the Electoral votes. US Congress confirms Joe Biden’s victory as next US President with 306 votes

  Vice President Mike Pence was overseeing the counting and he announced the final vote tally, out of which 306 were in favour of Joe Biden and 232 in favour of President Donald Trump.  The US Congress has confirmed Joe Biden’s Victory as the  next President of the United States . The congressional leaders resumed the Electoral College vote count at night on January 6, 2021 after the breach of security of the US Capitol building by protestors supporting President Donald Trump. The US Capitol building hosts both Houses of the US Parliament - US Senate and the House of Representatives. The violence and destruction caused by the protestors at the US Capitol had forced the members of the US Senate and House of Representatives to suspend the joint session that was convened to affirm Biden’s victory.  The lawmakers were evacuated from the chambers as the capitol building was put under a lockdown after the Trump supporters entered the building. India starts UNSC tenure, vows to be the voice for developing world and to speak against terror

  India’s flag was installed at UNSC stakeout on January 4, 2021, as the country began its two-years tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN body for the 2021-2022 period. As India assumed its membership for the 8th time at the United Nations Security Council, it vows to be the voice for the developing world and to use its tenure at the council to foster human-centric and inclusive solutions for peace and security. The Permanent Representative of India to the UN, TS Tirumurti also mentioned that the country will use this opportunity to raise its voice against terrorism. India to chair UNSC's Counter-Terrorism Committee in 2022

  UNSC's Counter-Terrorism Committee was formed in September 2001 after the tragic 9/11 attack on the World Trade Centre in New York, United States. India is scheduled to chair three main subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during its three-year term.  The bodies include- Counter-Terrorism Committee, Taliban Sanctions Committee and Libya Sanctions committee. It was announced by the Permanent Representative of India, TS Tirumurti at the United Nations Security Council on January 8, 2021.
